*THE SIN OF: Standing for Nothing and Standing Up for No One*
> “They stand for nothing, stand up for no one.” — Jeremiah 5:28 (MSG)
The tragedy in Jeremiah 5 was not merely that wicked people existed—it was that the righteous had become silent. Evil flourished because those who knew what was right refused to defend it. God was not only offended by the sins of the oppressors, but also by the indifference of those who watched and did nothing.
A righteous person does not merely avoid evil; he actively upholds truth, defends the helpless, and speaks for those who have no voice. To remain silent while injustice prevails is to surrender the ground to wickedness.
The wicked in Jeremiah exploited the poor, abandoned the orphan, and enriched themselves through injustice. Yet God’s sharpest indictment was this: _”They stand for nothing, stand up for no one.”_ They had convictions without courage, faith without action, and religion without compassion.
Neutrality in the face of sin is not righteousness. When truth is compromised and God’s people remain silent, silence itself becomes a form of participation. The absence of a righteous voice allows evil to become the dominant voice.
God is still looking for men and women who will stand for truth even when it is costly, stand for justice when it is unpopular, and stand up for the weak when no one else will. The world does not only need people who believe what is right—it needs people who will stand for what is right.
