Alertness

*Alertness* > “Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning.” — Luke 12:35 To walk according to the Holy Spirit, alertness is very important. Alertness is sharper than awareness. Alertness means being watchful, attentive, and ready to respond. It is mostly connected with immediate response and carefulness. Whereas awareness means having knowledge or understanding about something—knowing what is right and what is wrong. Many people are aware of the Holy Spirit, but they are not alert. Because of this, they fail to show immediate response and carefulness toward the Holy Spirit. Awareness becomes useless if there is no alertness. If a person only has knowledge and understanding that the Holy Spirit speaks, but when He actually speaks there is no immediate response or attentiveness, then what is the use of that awareness? Remain watchful and keep this in your heart: the Holy Spirit can speak to you at any time—while eating, while bathing, while talking to someone, while traveling, and even when your mood is not good. If you are not alert, you may miss it. When Jesus said, _“Stay awake,”_ or _“Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning,”_ and when Peter said, _“Be watchful,”_ and Paul also said, _“Stay awake,”_ they all pointed to the same truth: be ready to respond immediately and remain careful, so that you do not miss the moment when the Holy Spirit speaks, and thus you can walk according to Him.
