The True Meaning of Blessedness
> Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. Psalm 32:2
Blessedness means to be truly *happy*—but not as the world defines happiness. In ancient times, this word described those untouched by poverty, sickness, or death—possessing a deep, unshakable joy that no circumstance could steal. Sadly, people today chase happiness in possessions, pleasures, or human relationships. Yet true blessedness is divine—it flows only from God and belongs to those who walk in righteousness. The world’s sin may offer fleeting pleasure, but it ends in emptiness and curse. Only holiness leads to lasting joy and peace.
Blessed also means to be *approved*—to live under God’s smile. Just as a groom seeks a father’s blessing to marry his beloved, so we seek the Father’s approval upon our lives. To be blessed is to know that Heaven delights in you, that your ways bring joy to the heart of God.
Lastly, blessedness is to live under God’s *favor*. The blessed do not just have His approval—they carry His abundance. Grace, mercy, and peace overflow in their lives. As Psalm 23:6 declares, “Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life.” Such is the portion of those who are truly blessed. Hallelujah!
