Moses, hold the serpent by its tail!

Moses, hold the serpent by its tail!

Then the Lord said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. Exodus 4:4 NIV

God told Moses in *Exodus 4:4–5* to take the serpent by the tail, it was far more than a test of courage—it was a lesson in divine authority and faith. To seize a serpent by its tail defied human wisdom; it was the most dangerous way to touch what symbolized fear and death. Yet God required obedience in the very place of danger, revealing that His power begins where human confidence ends. In that moment, Moses learned that obedience to God’s word, even when it seems unreasonable, is the key to overcoming fear.

The serpent turning back into a rod was a divine sign that what once threatened him was now under his command. The very instrument of fear became a tool of authority. This transformation declared that God can turn every danger into dominion when His servant acts in faith. It also proclaimed the supremacy of Israel’s God over Pharaoh’s power, for the serpent was Egypt’s royal symbol. In Moses’ hand, it testified that the living God rules over every earthly force.

Through this act, God not only proved His presence but also foreshadowed Christ’s triumph over the ancient serpent, Satan. Lord Jesus said, *“In My name they will drive out demons; they will pick up serpents… and it will not hurt them.” Mark 16:17–18(AMPC)*. This is a revelation of divine victory: that in trusting obedience, the believer holds in his hand what once held him captive. Hallelujah 🙌
