Being filled with the Spirit !
Ephesians 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Why Paul is asking us to speak to ourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs? If we read the 18th verse we would get a clue about it- ” And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;”
Paul says ” Do not be drunk with wine but be filled with the Spirit” and then he shows the Ephesians how to be filled with the Spirit. Being drunk in excess with wine makes a person feed the flesh and its carnality and then what manifests is the fruits of the flesh namely – “The lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” (1 John 2:16)
As being Spiritual people Paul asks us to be filled with the Spirit by speaking in psalms this represents reading and meditating on the word of God. And singing hymns and spiritual songs, making melody in your heart to the lord, this is to pray in the spirit all the time.
This is the manner of living a Christian life and maintaining that life in the spirit. Let us learn and meditate on this verse today and put it into practice, so that we may bear fruit unto righteousness to God in the spirit.
