When the Flesh Seeks God

*When the Flesh Seeks God*

> “O God, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.” -Psalm 63:1

Throughout Scripture, the flesh is often portrayed as weak, fallen, and inclined toward sin. Yet in Psalm 63, David declares: _“My flesh longs for You.” How can the flesh seek God? How can the very part of man that is often associated with weakness become a participant in spiritual longing? But this is what happens when a believer’s love for God becomes deeper than every earthly desire.

David wrote Psalm 63 while living in the wilderness of Judah. He was separated from the sanctuary, removed from public worship, and deprived of the comforts and security he once enjoyed. The wilderness exposes what truly governs the heart.

When life is comfortable, we often depend upon many things without realizing it—health, finances, relationships, success, and stability. But when those supports are removed, our deepest desires come to the surface. God often allows wilderness seasons to teach us the difference between loving His blessings and loving Him.

The Bible also teaches that the body can become an instrument of worship. When it sats _“Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God.” — Romans 12:1_ At this point the flesh was no longer demands earthly satisfaction. Instead, it joinis the soul in seeking God.

A dead body feels no thirst. A corpse experiences no hunger. Likewise, spiritual indifference is a sign of spiritual deadness, but spiritual longing is evidence of spiritual life. That very ache is often proof that God’s Spirit is working within them.
