*When the Disciple Knows More Than the Teacher*
> “The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.”— Luke 6:40
A true teacher does not seek to keep disciples permanently dependent, but desires their maturity and strength. Jesus taught that a fully trained disciple becomes like the master.
Joshua led Israel further than Moses, Elisha received a greater measure of prophetic ministry than Elijah, and the apostles carried Christ’s message across nations. However, the Bible warns that knowledge without humility becomes dangerous. Spiritual maturity is not measured only by understanding, but by character, love, and submission to God. Pride can corrupt even genuine revelation.
The Bible also acknowledges that teachers are human and limited. Great leaders such as Moses, Peter, and Apollos themselves received correction and further instruction. God can use younger or less expected people to reveal truth. Even when a disciple grows beyond the teacher in knowledge or gifting, HONOUR should remain. Scripture consistently values gratitude, respect, and humility toward spiritual fathers, mentors, and elders.
At the same time, the Bible strongly condemns rebellion disguised as superiority. Korah’s rebellion against Moses shows that giftedness without humility leads to destruction. God opposes self-exaltation and division.
The ideal is not competition between teacher and disciple, but multiplication. A mature disciple grows in wisdom while remaining humble, honoring others, and serving God faithfully.
