REJECTED BY MEN, BUT PROTECTED BY GOD!
But the Lord was with Joseph, and showed him mercy and loving-kindness and gave him favor in the sight of the warden of the prison. Genesis 39:21
Joseph’s brother did not think well of him. Genesis 37:25 says they tossed Joseph down into an empty cistern and sat down to eat. What they did to him didn’t even curb their appetites! Then they sold him into slavery to some passing traders. Such could be your experience too.
Perhaps you were rejected by your family or some other important person in your life. Maybe you found out that people who claimed to love you really didn’t love you. Maybe someone you trusted deeply turned on you, and you got hung out to alone. What are you going to do now? Stay where you are? Decide never to trust anyone again? All of this and more happened to Joseph.
Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who bought him from the Ishmaelites, where he was falsely accused of molesting his wife… And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison. [But] the LORD was with Joseph. Joseph then was detained in prison for 12 years before God lifted him to be the governor of Egypt.
People may say, “Joseph had a lousy family background.” Yes, but the LORD was with Joseph.” They may say, “Yeah, but his brothers couldn’t stand him” True, but the LORD was with Joseph”. And that he had such a bad break. Still yet, “The LORD was with Joseph.” Though rejected by men, He was protected by God Himself.
