Jesus is the revelation of the Scriptures !
And beginning with Moses and all the prophets he carefully unveiled to them the revelation of himself throughout the Scriptures. Luke 24:27
Not only does Jesus ascribe more authority to himself than the Old Testament, but he had the audacity to present himself as the one whom all previous revelations are about and the one who gives life to them! In a debate with some Pharisees, Jesus said, “You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you possess eternal life.These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.” And a moment later he added: “If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me” (John 5:39-40, 45 46). That’s quite an astonishing claim! Jesus is talking specifically about the first five books of the Bible, but elsewhere he applied this same teaching to the whole OT. After his resurrection, Jesus explained to his disciples why he had to suffer and die. He told them that everything that was written about him in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms had to be fulfilled. And in this way, Luke writes, Jesus “opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.”
The only proper way to “study the Scripture diligently” is to study it in a way that discloses how all of it is about JESUS. This brings life to the word.
