Stay consistent, stay focused!
And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
1 John 2:28
At conversion God gives the Holy Spirit to live within us, but then we have something to do. We have to set our wills to bring a change within us, and thereby change our entire nature and lifestyle. We must become dedicated to one purpose – to be what God wants us to be and to do what He wants us to do. This is the purpose of the new birth. It’s no good responding with enthusiasm for a month or two then giving up. The Bible says, “…Let not Him that girdeth on his harness boast himself as he that putteth it off” (1 Kings 20:11 KJV). In other words, it’s not the one who starts, but the one who finishes that has the right to boast!
This is often the trouble with many newborn Christians. At the beginning they are full of enthusiasm and excitement, then when the pressures of life arrive we find them disturbed, depressed or “weary in well-doing.” What happened? These people have never allowed God who is inside them to deal with their heart and mind so that they ultimately come to conformity with the image of Christ. Consistency is what God is looking for. His grace is sufficient for us. Hallelujah 🙌🏻
