2. Discipline of memorization
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you”
Psalm 119:11
Bible memorization is absolutely fundamental to spiritual transformation. Among all the disciplines of spiritual life, Bible memorization is the most fundamental way of filling our minds with what it needs. This book of the law shall not depart OUT OF YOUR MOUTH. That’s where you need it! How does it get in your mouth? The answer is – by “Memorization”.
We see in Matthew 4:1-11 that our Lord set an excellent example in rebuffing Satan’s temptations with four precise quotations from the Old Testament Scriptures. The Psalmist said, “How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word” (119:9). And, Of course, he was referring to all of God’s Word, not just the passages which deal with sensuality.
Nevertheless, a disciplined memorization of scriptures like – 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 do change a man’s life. Other helpful passages include Job 31:1, Proverbs 6:27, Mark 9:42 , Ephesians 5:3-7, and 2 Timothy 2:22.
