The calling is approved by ‘being faithful in little things’!
His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your master.’
Matthew 25:21
The manner of our service on earth for God will have results that will reach into the ages to come. The reward for it will be great indeed – positions of trust and responsibility and honor in the future manifestation of God’s kingdom, and a share in the joy of the Lord Jesus. A person’s character is revealed in small things as well as in large things.
David was the youngest and the most ignored son in his father’s house. When the rest of his brothers were busy auditioning for a King, David was busy tending his sheep. He was too young to hold the risky profession of a shepherd. But David was faithful in his work. There were many reasons to do this work with a sorrowful and a burdened heart, but David cheerfully handled it. God saw how faithful David was and God made him ruler of Israel. Nothing else qualified David to be a King- but his faithfulness in small matters.
And all of us are being tested and revealed by what we do with money. Some Christians seem to think that if they believe the right doctrines it is all right for them to cheat, lie and swindle others. This is totally false and dangerous thinking. If dishonesty rules a person’s life, there is no love for truth and loving Jesus surely means loving truth also.
