*The Danger of Vain Thoughts*
> I hate vain thoughts: But thy law do I love. Psalm 119:113
A vain life is not first revealed in actions—it begins in the thoughts. The direction of a man’s life is determined by the direction of his mind. If the mind is filled with vanity—empty, wandering, purposeless thoughts—then life itself becomes unstable and fruitless.
Scripture reveals that God pays close attention not only to what a person does, but also to what a person thinks. _“The Lord knows the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.” (Psalm 94:11)._ Many people try to avoid obvious sins, yet they allow their minds to be filled with useless imaginations, worldly desires, and scattered thinking. But the heart is the birthplace of life. If the thoughts are vain, the life will eventually follow that vanity.
Jesus taught that evil actions come from within the heart (Mark 7:21). Long before sin appears outwardly, it grows silently in the inner world of thoughts. That is why Scripture calls us to discipline the mind and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). A believer cannot afford a careless mind.
A double-minded person is unstable in all his ways (James 1:8). When the mind wanders between God and vanity, between truth and imagination, life becomes divided and weak. But when the mind is fixed upon God and His Word, the life becomes steady, purposeful, and fruitful.
Therefore a godly life requires mental separation from vanity. Vain thoughts must be rejected, and the mind must be trained to meditate on the Word of God. As the psalmist declared, _“Oh how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.” (Psalm 119:97)._ When the Word fills the mind, vanity loses its place.
