Be Honest with God in Grief
I loathe my life; I will give free utterance to my complaint; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. Job 10:1 ESV
Grief is not something we can hide from God. The psalmist confessed, *“My tears have been my food day and night”* (Psalm 42:3) and *“I pour out my complaint before Him; I tell my trouble before Him”* (Psalm 142:2). David did not suppress his sorrow; he voiced it honestly, and in doing so found strength. He did not mask his anguish; he poured it out honestly. Speak openly to God, admitting the depth of your pain. Suppressing grief only deepens the wound, but bringing it before God invites His healing touch.
Even Jesus, in His agony, prayed, *“My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death”* (Matthew 26:38). He was real with the Father, showing us that honesty is the gateway to divine comfort. Suppressing grief deepens the wound, but pouring it out before God opens the door for healing.
Scripture assures us, *“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit”* (Psalm 34:18). When we are real with God, His Spirit comforts us (John 14:26–27), turning tears into trust and despair into hope.
